Dr. Appelo is a comprehensive ophthalmologist, currently on Active-Duty with the US Air Force, who treats a spectrum of eye diseases with a focus on cataract and refractive surgery, and minimally-invasive glaucoma surgery.

Dr. Appelo grew up in Tallahassee, FL and attended Florida State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with his Bachelor of Science. He then attended Florida State University College of Medicine, where he was recognized for excellence in patient care by being accepted to the Gold Humanism Honor Society.

Dr. Appelo did his Ophthalmology residency training through the US Air Force at Brooke Army Medical Center. After successfully completing residency, he was stationed at Keesler Medical Center,
where he is currently the Medical Director of the Ophthalmology Department. In his current duty, he is a surgical preceptor, teaching ophthalmic and refractive surgery to residents from Tulane University and University of Buffalo. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife Elizabeth and three
children, and enjoys taking the family outdoors for camping, hiking, or fishing excursions.
