Dr. Semple was raised in Mobile, AL, where he attended grade school through high school. He completed his college degree at the University of Alabama prior to attending medical school at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.

 

Upon graduating from medical school with honors, Dr. Semple proceeded to his internship year at Ochsner Hospital prior to completing his three-year residency training in ophthalmology at the LSU Eye Center and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He returned to his hometown of Mobile after completing his retinal fellowship at UC Davis in Sacramento.

 

In 1990, Dr. Semple started practicing at Premier Medical in Mobile. He was the only full-time vitreoretinal surgeon serving the Alabama/Mississippi coastal region for many years. During this time, he introduced many innovative and pioneering surgical procedures to the area.

 

Dr. Semple serves on numerous medical boards in various capacities, such as president of the Alabama Academy of Ophthalmology, councilor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine.
